I AM TONE DEAF
Music has always been a part of my life. At the age of 10, I began to learn how to play the guitar and over time I have taught myself how to play drums, bass, keyboards, and anything else that I needed to play in order to play in bands or record music. I also learned how to set up and operate studio recording gear, P.A.'s, lighting, and everything else that goes into playing music. My education was acquired through trial and error and through soliciting a lot of advice from music store staff.
Although I am only proficient enough on most instruments to be dangerous, I can usually turn a track from a sow's ear to a silk purse through the magic of punching in and out over mistakes and wrong notes. Without that ace in the hole, I would not have been able to accomplish what I have otherwise accomplished in the studio.
Over the years, I have played in a variety of bands, both for pleasure and professionally. I have played mostly drums and percussion, but I've also played guitar and keyboards when necessary. I am not a strong enough singer to front a band, but I am more than capable of singing lead on the occasional song and add backing, harmony vocals where needed.
As I look back over the years that have passed, I wish that I had taken the time to write and record more original music. I have little to show in this regard but now that I have more time on my hands and have set my studio back up, I intend to write and record music. I also regret not having salvaged a lot of what I did write and record, including
several parody songs. "What Are The Words To La Bamba" is an exception, a parody for which I wrote the lyrics and then recorded with XLR8 in 1988. We released that song on vinyl (45 rpm) and cassettes and the song received a significant amount of airplay on radio stations as a novelty. I still have the Master for that song.
As far as conventional originals, I have found old mixes that I took the time to transfer from analog to digital formats. The quality of the final product is not very good but it is what it is. I was only able to find the Masters for five of those songs, including: "Give It Up", "Hypnotized/Queen of the Hearts", and "It Ain't Over" recorded with Hero in 1989; "Tell Me That I'm Dreaming" which I recorded with a friend in 1989; and "You" in 2007 which I recorded by myself in 2007.
With the advent of creating new music comes the creation of this website. I no longer have aspirations of playing out or performing live. Those days have long since passed. I also have no delusions of creating any commercially viable music and I'm way too old to be "discovered" or signed by a label. I just want to write and record music for my own personal satisfaction and share it on-line with anyone who cares to listen to it.
Stay tuned as I continue on this journey. Cheers!
